Sucrose vs. Barbara: Who Is Better?

Sucrose vs Barbara

Sucrose and Barbara are two powerful characters in Genshin Impact that have quite different skill sets, so it can be hard to choose between the two. So out of Sucrose versus Barbara, who is better?

Sucrose is better as she can control enemies effectively and also can reliably trigger her secondary effects to boost defenses and damage for the rest of the party. This is even better with the correct gear. Barbara is not the strongest healer.

Let’s look at their strengths, abilities, differences and overall strategies that you can use with these two characters, as well as which is better overall.

Strengths and Abilities of Sucrose

Playing the role of an alchemist specializing in bio-alchemy, Sucrose boasts the normal attack Wind Spirit Creation that deals Anemo damage and AoE (Area of Effect) Anemo damage.

Sucrose also has Astable Anemohypostasis Creation – 6308 that is an elemental skill and deals Anemo damage after casting a Wind Spirit.

Sucrose can also cast the elemental burst Forbidden Creation – Isomer 75 / Type II that creates a Large Wind Spirit that does crowd control and deals Anemo damage.

This skill also has an Elemental Absorption aspect so that if the Wind Spirit comes into contact with Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro energy, it will deal additional Elemental damage.

In terms of passives, Sucrose has Catalyst Conversion as her 1st Ascension Passive, and this is activated when Sucrose triggers a Swirl effect.

Swirl is applied when an involved non-Anemo element is applied to an enemy already affected by Anemo.

Catalyst Conversion gives all characters in the party with the matching element (excluding Sucrose) to have their Elemental Mastery increased by 50 for eight seconds.

Her 4th Ascension Passive is Mollis Favonius, and this is triggered when either of her two main attack moves hit an enemy and will increase all party member’s Elemental Mastery calculated as 20% of Sucrose’s Elemental Mastery for eight seconds.

Her Utility Passive Astable Invention allows her benefit from a 10% chance to obtain double the product from Character and Weapon Enhancement Materials.

Sucrose also benefits from Constellations with the Clustered Vacuum Field giving one additional charge to Astable Anemohypostasis Creation – 6308, and Beth: Unbound Form giving the same attack an extra two seconds duration.

Flawless Alchemistress increases the level of Astable Anemohypostasis Creation – 6308 by 3 to get to the maximum upgrade level of 15.

Alchemania will mean every seven normal and charged Attacks will trigger a reduced cooldown of Astable Anemohypostasis Creation – 6308 by one to seven seconds.

Caution: Standard Flask increases the level of Forbidden Creation – Isomer 75 / Type II by 3, maximizing at level 15.

Chaotic Entropy gives an extra attribute to Forbidden Creation – Isomer 75 / Type II so that when an Elemental Absorption is triggered, all party members will gain a 20% Elemental damage bonus for the corresponding element absorbed during its duration.

Strengths and Abilities of Barbara

A hydro elemental character, she is obtained from the Baptism of Song Event by completing the quest called A Long Shot.

She has Whisper of Water as a Normal attack that deals Hydro damage via four water splash attacks. The charged version deals AoE Hydro.

Let the Show Begin♪ is an Elemental skill that attacks via water droplets that deal Hydro damage to surrounding opponents and apply the Wet status to them.

This will also trigger Melody Loop which will cause Barbara’s Normal attacks to heal your own party members on hit and also nearby teammates for a certain amount of HP, which scales according to Barbara’s max HP.

If Barbara gets hit, her Charged attack will generate four times the amount of healing. and periodically regenerates your own active character’s HP.

Melody Loop will also apply the Wet status to the character and to opponents who come in contact with Barbara.

Shining Miracle♪ is an Elemental burst attack that will heal your own party members and nearby teammates for a large amount of HP that is relative to Barbara’s own max HP.

Her 1st Ascension Passive is Glorious Season and means the stamina consumption of characters within Let the Show Begin♪’s Melody Loop will be reduced by 12%.

Barabara’s 4th Ascension Passive is Encore and means that if your active character gains an Elemental orb/particle, then the duration of the Melody Loop of Let the Show Begin♪ is extended by one second up to a maximum extension of five seconds.

Finally, her Utility Passive With My Whole Heart♪ means that when a Perfect Cooking attribute is achieved on a dish with restorative effects, Barbara has a 12% chance to obtain double the product just cooked.

Sucrose vs. Barbara: Who Is Better?

Overall Sucrose has much more damage and utility in battles.

Sucrose has the big advantage of having a crowd control effect, meaning she is more useful to dampen enemy movements and attacks.

If you have the four piece Viridescent Venerer Artifact Set for Sucrose, this will significantly boost Melt damage as opposed to Barabara doing it via Instructors. [1]

Barabara’s main useful abilities are healing, but there are much better options, like Bennett. Barabara may have freeze, but Sucrose’s ability to group enemies with her crowd control which will also PROC (Programmed Random Occurrence) her Swirl.

Sucrose can also swap in and out of battle while still setting off her attacks and buffs, whereas Barbara can’t.
