MIP 67 – Meaning & Fixes

MIP 67 - Meaning & Fixes

In order for a mobile phone to connect to the internet, it has to follow certain protocols. If there is an issue at any point during this connection, you get various error messages. One such message is the MIP 67, which can pop up on Android devices from time to time. But why does this error happen? And how can you fix it?

MIP 67 is an error message which occurs when your device cannot connect to the internet via mobile data. And every time you try to connect, this message keeps recurring. Solutions to this problem range from simple tricks like rebooting your device or SIM card to changing the device’s network mode.

In this article, we are going to discuss this error in more detail and explore the possible solutions to it as well.

What Does MIP 67 Error Mean?

First, let’s explain what MIP is. MIP stands for Mobile Internet Protocol or Mobile IP. In simple terms, this protocol allows your mobile phone to connect to the internet using cellular data. Mobile phone users are constantly moving around.

So, the aim of this protocol is to provide a seamless connection to the internet without needing to constantly change the underlying IP. It also allows mobile users to smoothly switch between different PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node) domains, which act as the connection point between your phone and the internet.

When your device fails to register to the PDSN, the device cannot connect to the internet. When this happens, you will encounter the MIP 67 error code.

Why Does MIP 67 Error Occur?

This particular error can occur due to incorrect provisioning. Provisioning means to set up a network so that users can access that network with their devices without any glitches or errors.

It can also happen when you try to operate a new device using your previous SIM card. It can also happen if your SIM card is out of service when you try to access the internet with it. Basically, the device fails to connect to the internet via cellular data. And every time you try to reconnect with your mobile data, the error message pops up again.

How to fix MIP 67 error?

So, now let’s talk about fixing this error. There are several ways that can potentially resolve this issue. And we have covered most of them below:

Restart Mobile Data

Let’s try the easy solutions first. Occasionally, the issue can be fixed with a simple restart. Just turn off your mobile data connection and wait a few seconds. Then turn it back on and see if you can connect to the internet now.

Restart Your Device

When you run any hardware for a long enough time, it will become more prone to errors. But when you reboot that device, it allows the device to restart with a clean slate. This often results in better performance and efficiency. This is why many issues can be fixed with a simple restart.

And the same applies to your phone’s internet connection. A simple rebooting of your device may get the job done and allow you to access the internet without any issues.

Alternatively, you can reboot your mobile data connection by taking out your SIM card and placing it back in. Sometimes, your phone may have some problem detecting the SIM card. Simply reinstalling the SIM card very often fixes this issue.

Change the Network’s APN Settings

APN or Access Point Name is a gateway between your device and the internet. When you want to connect to the internet, this APN is presented to the carrier. This determines certain aspects of your internet connection such as finding the correct IP, determining whether the device requires a private network or not, selecting the proper security settings, etc.

If you are facing the MIP 67 error, it may be fixed by changing your APN settings or updating it. The easiest way to do this is to contact your carrier service provider. They will then send you an updated APN for your device, usually via an SMS.

Change the Network Mode

Your mobile can connect to the internet via different network modes. Each mode has different operational characteristics. This essentially determines how your device will log into the internet. And if the error is a result of using the wrong network mode, changing it to a different mode may fix the issue. Here is how to do it:

  • Go to Settings on your device.
  • Go to Connection.
  • Select “Mobile Networks”.
  • Tap on “Mobile Mode”.
  • Now, select LTE/CDMA.
  • After changing the mode, return to Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Navigate to “System Updates”.
  • Update your profile.

If a wrong network mode was causing this issue, doing this should hopefully resolve it. You will be able to connect to the internet without the error message popping up.

Update Your System

If the problem is not with your service provider or your SIM card, it could be because of your device’s own software. A backdated system will always encounter glitches and bugs that are fixed with the newer versions. So, make sure that your device is up to date on all of its software. In order to do so, follow these simple steps:

  • Go to Systems.
  • Navigate to System Updates.
  • Tap on “Check for Updates”.
  • If there are updates available, then tap on “Download Updates”.

Change the MSID

If you are using an incorrect MSID (Mobile Station ID), your device will be unable to access cellular services. This will then result in the error popping up when you try to connect to the internet.

In order to change the MSID of your device, you need to contact your service provider and ask them for your MSID number. Once you have this information, simply follow these steps:

  • Go to your device’s dial-up app.
  • Enter ##847446#.
  • Next, tap on “Edit”.
  • Enter the MSID provided by customer care.
  • Then tap on OK.

Your device will then reboot and once it does, the error message should stop recurring.

To sum up, the MIP 67 error is not uncommon for mobile users. But it can be quite frustrating. Hopefully, now you have some ideas to implement in order to fix this issue the next time you encounter it.
