V-Bucks is the currency in Epic’s massively successful Fortnite series, including Save the World, Battle Royale, and Creative. Looking through the Item Shop, there are many great cosmetics and other items that you want, so how do you get free V-Bucks?
There aren’t ways to consistently get free V-Bucks, although some challenges and quests will grant some. Generally, you have to purchase V-Bucks or get other things like the Battle Pass to get V-Bucks, but to get free V-Bucks generally isn’t possible.
Let’s look at some of the ways you can earn V-Bucks in limited situations, how the V-Bucks system works, and what to think about claims that websites or apps offer free V-Bucks. Trying to get free V-Bucks is one of the most common ways to lose an account!
How Can You Get V-Bucks for Free?
There are some ways to earn V-Bucks for free, but any offers from websites that claim you can generate free V-Bucks or just get them by logging into your account on their website should be avoided.
Founder’s Pack
Although no longer available, if you got your hands on the Founder’s Pack for Fortnite: Save the World (StW), you would get free V-Bucks.
These rewards are in the form of daily login rewards. After logging in each day, you will receive a reward. Generally once per week, you will be awarded V-Bucks.
Over a 330 to 340-day period, you will be granted a total of 10,000 V-Bucks. This comes in packages of 150 or 300 every couple of weeks, or sometimes in 800 V-Bucks amounts.
Daily Quests in StW
You can earn V-Bucks in StW via Daily Quests that provide around 50 to 100 V-Bucks. While Daily Quests also exist in Battle Royale (BR), you’re not going to get V-Bucks for them.
There are some great websites that categorize the Daily Quests into how easy they are versus the rewards you get for free V-Bucks.
Challenge Quests in StW
There are Challenge quests and they’re all different types, but you can only complete them 20 times before they’re all completed and won’t refresh. Generally, you’ll get either 30 or 50 V-Bucks.
Storm Shield Defense missions get you 100 V-Bucks and there are a total of 10 Storm Shield Defense missions. Progress through the main story to unlock them.
Timed Missions in StW
Marked on the map with a clock sign and rotating every 24 hours, sometimes these offer V-Bucks but only 25 V-Bucks or so and they don’t appear very often.
Free V-Bucks in BR
For free players in BR without the Battle Pass, you can earn around 300 V-Bucks, but buying the Battle Pass for 950 V-Bucks can increase the total from Battle Royale to 1500 V-Bucks that you can earn via playing the game and completing challenges and quests.
Arena Mode
The competitive mode in BR, you can get rewards for placing highly in this, including real money or V-Bucks. Keep in mind that this is not as easy as it sounds, you’ll need to learn how to play competitively and be available at the time the tournament runs.
You’ll also need to make sure your account email is verified, over level 15 and you need to set up two factor authentication.
Refund Tokens
You get a specific amount of refund tokens that allow you to return a cosmetic you purchased to receive the amount of V-Bucks you spent on it.
There are a lot of restrictions on this, and you’ll only get the V-Bucks back that you already spent, but if you made a purchase by mistake this is any easy way to get those V-Bucks back.
Initially you’ll get three, and players will be granted a new refund ticket once every 365 days after the last ticket refresh.
Refunds can only work up to 30 days from the purchase for eligible purchases.
No consumable items like Battle Pass, Gifts, Fortnite Crew Subscriptions or other similar items can be returned.
Are There Codes for V-Bucks?
There are codes for V-Bucks known as redeemable codes, these are like gift cards you can buy at retail stores and load with real money in order to get V-Bucks in-game.
As these have to be bought at some point, be careful about anyone offering these for free.
It is almost certainly a scam, and this is often used as a way to use social engineering and get you to log in to your account through a fake website, only for your account details to be stolen.
Some deals will give you free V-Bucks, like bundle purchases offered with Nintendo Switch consoles, and they will include a V-Bucks redeemable code in the box.
What App Gives You Free V-Bucks?
Be wary of any app offering free V-Bucks. V-bucks can’t be transferred between accounts, so anyone offering V-Bucks must have purchased them at some point. This means that they can’t offer them for free without losing money.
There are some apps out there that purport to offer V-Bucks for doing tasks like completing surveys, referring friends, watching videos, downloading other apps and creating accounts among many other online activities.
The scam to legitimate ratio of many of these apps is bad, so unless you have independent, verifiable evidence that these rewards are real and that redeemable codes are sent to other users, I would stay away from them.
If at any point you are asked to log in to your Epic or Fortnite account, this is an immediate red flag.
The main thing to be aware of is that Epic makes money off V-Bucks purchases, and a lot of money, so they are not keen if there is any way to exploit their system to generate free V-Bucks. To them it is like counterfeiting, and they clamp down on it hard.
There are also lots of issues around transferring V-Bucks between accounts, the Fortnite shared wallet and many other limitations, so check out Epic’s own FAQ on V-Bucks to get a better idea on how it works.
