Choosing between the various damage dealers for late game progress can be a hard choice, especially between similar weapon wielders like Tighnari and Ganyu in Genshin Impact. So who is better out of the two and who should you choose?
Ganyu does more consistent damage and so is the better choice if that’s what you need to complete your party. If you need a support character, Tighnari is better than Ganyu but there are much better choices out there for a support character.
Let’s consider why Ganyu is such a powerful character, what Ganyu does best, as well as see why Tighnari has a place in some teams but generally is not going to be the first choice based on statistics alone. So let’s get into it!
Tighnari’s Strengths and Abilities
Tighnari is Dendro who is a Forest Watcher.
Her charged attack at level one fires a Dendro-infused arrow that deals Dendro damage while level two fires a Wreath Arrow that deals Dendro damage.
Upon hit, this Wreath Arrow will create four Clusterbloom Arrows that will automatically track nearby opponents, dealing Dendro damage.
The Elemental skill, Vijnana-Phala Mine, results in a Vijnana Stormheart being placed ahead of him and it will deal Area of Effect (AoE) Dendro damage as well as creating a Vijnana-Khanda Field.
This field summons strange illusions to taunt the enemy, resulting in less damage coming your way. Additionally, he will come under the Vijnana Suffusion effect, which will decrease the Wreath Arrow’s charging time by 2.4 seconds.
His Elemental burst is Fashioner’s Tanglevine Shaft that combines the power of all seeds to fire six Tanglevine Shafts that deal Dendro damage while seeking out the targets.
The First Ascension Passive Keen Sight means that after Tighnari fires a Wreath Arrow, his Elemental Mastery is increased by 50 for four seconds.
His other passive is Scholarly Blade and for every point of Elemental mastery Tighnari possesses, his charged attack and Fashioner’s Tanglevine Shaft damage get their damage boosted.
The bonus has a maximum obtainable value of 60%. Finally, his Encyclopedic Knowledge Utility Passive will display the location of nearby resources unique to Sumeru on the map.
Ganyu’s Strengths and Abilities
Ganyu is a damage dealing character, specializing in Cryo.
It will be the standard icy arrow that deals Cryo damage for charge level one, and charge level two will fire off a Frostflake Arrow that deals Cryo damage. Frostflake Arrow will also deal AoE Cryo damage after hitting its target.
For Ganyu’s Elemental skill, Trail of the Qilin forms an Ice Lotus and then Ganyu dashes backward, dealing AoE Cryo damage. The Ice Lotus will distract and receive enemy attacks in the meantime.
As Ganyu’s maximum HP goes up, it scales up the Ice Lotus. On top of this, the Ice Lotus will release Cryo AoE on being destroyed or once its duration ends.
The Celestial Shower Elemental burst attack will summon a Sacred Cryo Pearl, Ganyu’s attacks will then continuously rain down shards of ice via an AoE Cryo attack.
Undivided Heart as her first Ascension Passive raises the critical hit rate of Frostflake Arrows, and then the resulting bloom effects from the arrows go up by 20% for five seconds.
Harmony between Heaven and Earth is her Fourth Ascension Passive, giving Celestial Shower a 20% Cryo damage bonus for any active members in the AoE range.
When forging Bow-type weapons, Ganyu’s Utility Passive refunds 15% of the ores used.
Dew-Drinker is the first Constellation that will decrease opponents’ Cryo resistance by 15% after taking damage from a level two Frostflake Arrow or Frostflake Arrow Bloom. A hit by these arrows will also regenerate two energy for Ganyu.
The Auspicious Constellation means that Trail of the Qilin gains one additional charge while Constellation Cloud-Strider increases the level of Celestial Shower by three up to a maximum upgrade level of 15.
The AoE of Celestial Shower will mean that any enemies will take increased damage over time, going from 5% and increasing by 5% every three seconds, up to a maximum of 25%, called Westward Sojourn.
The Merciful will further upgrade Trail of the Qilin’s level by three to a maximum upgrade level of 15, and The Clement means that using Trail of the Qilin causes the next Frostflake Arrow shot to not require charging.
Tighnari vs. Ganyu: Who Is Better?
While they’re both bow users, one of the major differences is that Tighnari is Dendro, and Ganyu is Cryo.
Ganyu can deal more damage than Tighnari, especially if there is more than one enemy.
Tighnari is a little bit like Ningguang, as his attacks can only target one enemy.
Because Ganyu can deal more damage, it’s generally the better choice if you’re just starting out. However neither is the top pull, and I would suggest saving the primogems for the Dendro Arcon, Nahida.
